# Pokémon Biology Notes
## 0179 Mareep–0181 Ampharos
Mareep and its evolutions are characterized by wool atop “rubbery,
electricity‐resistant skin”.
In fact, wool and rubber are subject to the triboelectric effect,
whereby the electrons from the wool are lost to the rubber, giving
the former a positive static charge (explaining Mareep’s abilities,
Static and Plus) and the latter a negative static charge.
This negative charge (i·e, the electrons) is absorbed by the Mareep,
leaving the positive charge to be dispelled by the environment.
Antistatic sprays can help Mareep’s wool dispel its charge faster; this
is not harmful to the Mareep so long as it does not interfere with
the electron collection occurring on its skin.
In fact, such sprays may boost growth by ensuring Mareep’s wool is able
to replenish its electrons with greater speed.
Ampharos lacks any wool (unless mega‐evolved) and must collect
electricity from the environment directly.
## 0453 Croagunk–0454 Toxicroak
Croagunk stores and secretes poison from the sacs on its cheeks and in
the middle fingers of its hands.
This poison is collected from the environment through Croagunk’s
diet—in domesticity, the poison is typically mild and safe.
Croagunk poison acts on nerve cells and, under heavy dilution, can be
used medicinally as a muscle relaxant.
Domestic Croagunk are trained as masseuses with a carefully monitored
diet to maximize the medicinal effect.
